Camping is great fun, but when you are going camping with kids, you need to make sure that you are staying somewhere safe with plenty to do to keep them entertained. Whether you're planning on staying local or travelling further afield, there are plenty of great family run campsites in the UK that are just bursting with open spaces, delicious ice creams and packed with family fun. From small farms and woodland escapes to big adventure parks, there is something for everyone.

In this article, we will share our favourite family-friendly campsites in the UK for camping, touring, glamping and even self-catering lodges so you are sure to find something you'll love.

Scotland

Campsie Glen Holiday Park, Fintry

With a heated swimming pool, indoor hot tub, kids pool, outdoor play area and a games room, there is plenty of family fun just waiting for you at Campsie Glen Holiday Park. Cot and high chair hire is available and there are also heated toilet and shower rooms and on-site laundry. Ideally located in central Scotland, this campsite is close to Doune and Stirling Castle so you can enjoy an exciting day out. You will also be within easy reach of Blair Drummond Safari Park, Briarlands Farm and Drumbrae Riding Centre as well as lots of local restaurants.

Balloch O'Dee Campsite, Kirkcowan

Just 10 miles away from Galloway Forest Park, Balloch O'Dee Campsite offers stunning views and is just a stone's throw away from the 6th best beach in Scotland, Stairhaven. Choose from traditional camping with or without electric hook-up or stay in a vintage caravan, hut or cabin for a traditional countryside adventure. This site has a relaxed vibe so it's perfect if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet. You'll also be joined by the resident farm animals who roam free throughout the site so be sure to make friends with the Shetland ponies!

North East

Herding Hill Farm, Haltwhistle, Northumberland

Home to an animal petting farm and outdoor children's play area, this campsite is both family and dog friendly, so you don't have to leave anyone behind. Herding Hill Farm campsite boasts an award-winning luxury amenities building with heated flooring, baths, toilets and a shower suite. On-site, you'll also find a licensed shop and BBQ hut which is a great place for families to get together and cook. Perfect for campers and touring caravans, there are also luxury lodges on-site and the dark Northumberland sky makes this a great place to stargaze. If you're looking for a historic day out, it's within walking distance from Hadrian's Wall.

North West

Hill of Oaks, Windermere, Lake District

Have a taste of luxury at a stunning family campsite on the banks of Lake Windermere. If you want to be in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Hill of Oaks is the perfect base for exploring by foot, bike or boat. Touring caravans and motorhomes are welcome or you can stay in a safari tent, glamping pod or self-catering accommodation on site. There is some dog-friendly accommodation available, including a dog park, as well as boat launching facilities for holiday homeowners. This is a great place to stay if you love water sports so you can make use of the slipways to launch canoes, kayaks, inflatables and paddleboards.

Wales

Tyddyn Isaf, Anglesey, North Wales

Look no further for the perfect seaside getaway. With a private footpath heading from the campsite, straight to Lligwy beach, you really can't get much closer to the sea. This is the perfect spot for kids to play in the water with gently shelving sand so it's great for paddling and is also a large, sheltered area with plenty of space. On the Tyddyn Isaf campsite, there is a takeaway, convenience shop, a children's play area, toilet, shower and laundry facilities as well as on-site security.

Quay West Holiday Park, New Quay, South Wales

There's a lot to love at Quay West Holiday Park. With a range of caravans to choose from, there is accommodation to suit every budget. Dine-in one of the on-site restaurants and enjoy live performances at the evening entertainment venue. During the day, there is plenty to keep you busy. No matter the weather, you can head to the indoor or outdoor swimming pool, get crafty at the Pic 'n' Paint Studio or satisfy adrenaline junkies with an aerial adventure or zip wire. For a more relaxed family day, head to the Fantasy Farm Park Petting Zoo, have a round of crazy golf or take a relaxing woodland nature walk.

The Midlands

Bosworth Water Park, Warwickshire
